It's that time of the year when all the highly anticipated movies start to arrive and I try to watch a couple I missed during the summer.

Yesterday's Troubles Aren't So Faraway

Aspiring musician Jack Malick (Hamish Patel) has the right idea to panic when the whole world suddenly forgets The Beatles. Imagine if your favorite artist or band were erased form history and you're the only person on the planet who remembers them at all. I tremble to think of a world without Weird Al Yankovic. I would do the same as Jack and write down the lyrics to their greatest hits. No help from the internet or albums since they never existed in the first place! Goes to show how well one knows a song.

Toy Story 4: Superfluous but Surprising.

Toy Story is the one that started it all for Pixar. It gave the company its identity, and revolutionized animation as the first movie to fully utilize computer generated imagery. Toy Story 2, being Pixar's third movie and first sequel while still in its infancy, exceeded expectations as being better than the original. At the peak of its prime, Toy Story 3 proved yet again that Pixar could do this franchise no wrong as it gave the story a beautiful resolution. Since then, Woody and the gang have appeared in various shorts and TV specials with no plans of returning for another feature film....or so we thought.

The story of the artist going from rags to riches has been told time and time again. In the case of A Star is Born, the story of a young woman aspiring to be a singer and falls in love with a fading star only to have her career skyrocket while his continues to dwindle, has been told not once but four times. The original starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. It was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Valentine Viewing

I was going to do a Fifty Shades Free review but these movies have enough unwanted attention. The rant would have been the same as its predecessor and bears not being repeated. It's common sense why these films are horrible and you don't need me to tell you why. Instead of this tripe, I want to write something that I can recommend for all you lovebirds this Valentine week. I won't pretend to be a guru in romance (sadly still single) but I can think of of a few films that would be great on a date night.

Fifty Shades of Dreary Boredom

Whenever I watch those awful spoof movies (Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, Scary Movie), I feel like I’ve fallen in a puddle of vomit in desperate need of a dozen showers. When it comes to a movie like Fifty Shades Darker, I feel like my soul got lost in an empty abyss. These are films I could care less about and steer clear away, but hey when you write about movies you’re going to have to sit in front of crap in order to explain why its crap in the first place. The story of my life.

From the director of Hannah Montana the Movie and the screenwriter of Collateral Beauty, (Oh, joy…) bring what I can only describe as The Martian meets The Fault in Our Stars. Good movies I’d rather be watching than this dense of a sci-fi /teen drama mush known as The Space Between Us.
