The Top 12 Most Anticipated Films of 2018

2017 is long gone and 2018 is getting started. With a new crop of movies, which ones will you see? Will you watch it in theater, Netflix or until the DVD release? What trailer caught your eye? Are there some you have no desire to see? In any case every has their must-see list, here are twelve films that I can't wait to see.

12). Mute (Releases Date: February 23 on Netflix)
After the perplexing Warcraft, Duncan Jones is blasting back to science-fiction in what is said to be a spiritual sequel to his first film, Moon. Alexander Skarsgård of True Blood fame plays a mute bartender searching for his missing girlfriend in this noir tale à la Blade Runner. Sam Rockwell is set to reprise his role from Moon, curious to see if he plays a big part or just an Easter Egg cameo.

11). Early Man (Release Date: February 16)
A caveman comedy starring Newt Scamander, and Loki? Sign me in. Aardman Animation, the team behind the Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run, and Shaun the Sheep, have never never let me down. I always look forward to their claymation projects with their witty British humor and charming characters.

10). Peter Rabbit (Release Date: February 9)
"The Tale of Peter Rabbit" by Beatrix Potter is a childhood favorite of mine and it upsets me that Sony seems to be taking The Smurfs route and making live-action! I hate the first trailer though the second one looks somewhat reassuring. I enjoy Stuart Little and Paddington and never read the books, so I'll give this one a chance. Really praying that this does not become a Cat in the Hat disaster.

9). Black Panther (Release Date: February 16)
After his debut in Civil War, Chadwick Boseman is back as the Black Panther. Set in his homeworld of Wakaknda with threat rising among his people. I'm really excited especially with the cast that includes Micheal B. Jordan (Creed), Daniel Kaluya (Get Out), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings), Martin Freeman (The Hobbit) and two Oscar winners: Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave), and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland). All leading closer and closer to Infinity War.

8). Solo: A Star Wars Story (Release Date: May 25)
Wasn't crazy on a Han Solo origin story but when Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover were cast as young Han and Lando, the interest level started to rise. Besides being a new Star Wars movie, it's what happened behind the scenes that has my curiosity with Ron Howard stepping in after the original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were booted off the project while already in production. Whether this movie takes off or not this promises to be fascinating experience.

7). Annihilation (Release Date: February 23)
Nothing much to say except that I'm a sucker for smart sci-fi and it is from the same team behind Ex Machina.

6).The Grinch (Release Date: November 9)
Nothing will top the Chuck Jones classic (though I have a soft spot for the live-action version starring Jim Carrey) but I'm open for a new animated adaptation of the mean one himself. Can't go wrong with Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Grinch, I just hope Illumination learned its lesson with The Lorax. (Trailer Has Yet to be Released)

5). Roma (Release Date: TBA)
Alfonso Cuaron is one of my favorite filmmakers having the done the dystopia Children of Men (2007) and the sci-fi masterpiece Gravity (2013), so of course I am excited for his next motion picture. All that is known is that it takes in 1970's Mexico City and filmed in the city itself. (Trailer Has Yet to be Released)

4). Avengers: Infinity War (Release Date: May 4)
It's Infinity War! Need I explain more? Everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been leading to this. Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Widow, Hawk-Eye, Black Panther, Ant-Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and a whole list super-heroes that are too many to name band together in the biggest battle of all time.

3). The Public (Release Date: TBA)
As someone who has experience in this field, seeing a public library take center stage makes for an intriguing setup.  Even more captivating is the return of the mighty duck himself Emilio Estevez, the last we ever heard from Estevez was him directing the underrated drama The Way starring his father Martin Sheen. Not only does this mark his sixth theatrical film he direct's, it's his first major acting role since the late nineties (even if you count his role in Bobby from 2006, it's still a long time).

2) Ready Player One (Release Date: March 30).
Steven Spielberg directing. Check. Based on the bestselling book by Ernest Cline. Check. Mark Rylance. Check. The DeLorean from Back to the Future. Wait what? The Iron Giant. You serious? King Kong. Wait a minute! Joker and Harley Quinn. Huh? The Mach 5 from Speed Racer. Wasn't that next to the DeLorean? Tracer from Overwatch. Don't know who that is but OK. Chucky the killer doll. Didn't see that coming. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Hurry up March!

1.) Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse (Release Date: December 14)
Sony: Want a new Spider-Man movie?
Me: Not really.
Sony: It's not related to the MCU.
Me: Neither is Venom, so what.
Sony: We are trying something different.
Me: So did The Amazing Spider-Man. and look how well that did.
Sony It's going to be animated.
Me: I'm listening.
Sony: Miles Morales.
Me: Shut up and take my money!
